We’ve tested various Gaiam products and they are all of great quality. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed with anything produced by Gaiam, including their excellent yoga mats. This is one of their cheaper mats, but it is still made of TPE – a much safer and friendlier material than PVC. While costing slightly more, TPE is superior to PVC in most aspect. When looking for a cheap yoga mat, I suggest to check if it’s made of TPE. The only problem with this material is that it degrades much faster than PVC. However, at this price, you don’t expect for your mat to last more than a few years, and afterwards you can feel good about discarding a biodegradable item that will not harm the environment and decompose quickly.
User Review:
First of all, this mat only lasted a year of intensive practice. I’ve been using it three to four time a day during my intense immersion and after a year it started to give in. I noticed chunks of material missing from where my toes and fingers usually are. In addition, the mat’s surface became much more slippery (though I didn’t have much time to clean this yoga mat). Overall, I enjoyed using this yoga mat, and I doubt any other mat would last much longer after so much practice.
